Tree trimming and pruning for Little Rock yards
Good trimming is mostly about which branches stay. Take the wrong ones and a healthy oak spends years sprouting water shoots; take the right ones and it rides out the next storm with less sail and less weight over your house.
- Canopy raising and thinning
- Deadwood removal

Short answer
Tree trimming in Little Rock typically runs about $415 to $506 per visit, going by published 2026 local figures, and covers thinning the crown, raising low limbs and removing deadwood. The goal is less weight and wind resistance over the house without topping the tree. Most mature shade trees need it every three to five years.

What proper trimming does for a shade tree

We cut back to a branch collar or to a side branch at least a third the size of the one removed. Those cuts close over. Stub cuts and topping do not; they rot, and the tree answers them with a flush of weakly attached sprouts.
On a typical visit the crew thins the outer crown, lifts limbs off the roof and driveway, and takes out dead wood before it falls. No more than about a quarter of the live canopy comes off in one season.
Canopy raising

Low limbs over the driveway, the sidewalk or the mower path are removed back to the trunk or shortened to a side branch. We raise gradually on young trees so the trunk keeps taper. On mature oaks the target is usually clearance for a truck or a person under the canopy edge, not a lollipop with a bare trunk. Raising is also how we get limbs out of the way of the house siding and the gutters, where constant rubbing wears paint and traps moisture.
Local market guidance: $415 to $506 per typical visit (planning range from published 2026 figures, not our quote; every job is priced on site).
Crown thinning

Thinning removes selected branches throughout the canopy so wind and light pass through. It is the cut that matters most for storm season: a dense crown catches wind like a sail and loads with ice. We take the crossing, rubbing and crowded branches first and keep the ones with strong, wide unions to the trunk. Done right, you can hardly tell from the street that the tree was worked on, and the lawn under it gets more light and dries out faster after rain.
Deadwood removal

Dead branches over a roof, a patio or a play set are the first thing we take. They are brittle, they drop without warning, and in an oak they often mark where decay is getting in. Deadwood over two inches is removed back to live tissue with a clean cut, and the crew lead notes anything that points to a bigger problem, such as fungus at the base or a cavity near a main union, so you hear about it before it becomes a removal.
Roof and driveway clearance
Branches resting on shingles scrape granules off and hold leaf litter in the valleys; branches over the driveway drip sap and drop limbs on cars. We cut them back to a side branch with room to grow, usually several feet from the roofline. Service drops to the house get checked before we cut near them. Clearing the roof also cuts down on gutter clogs and the squirrels that use overhanging limbs as a bridge onto the house and into the attic.
How this job runs around Little Rock
The December 2000 ice storms put more than an inch of ice across central Arkansas, and the long, heavy limbs over Little Rock and North Little Rock roofs were the ones that came down, many keeping neighborhoods dark for a week. Hillcrest shows why: lots platted between 1890 and 1920 carry oaks older than most of the houses, with limbs reaching well over the rooflines. Those are the trees where thinning and a little end-weight reduction before winter pays off most.

What moves the price
What decides the price of a trimming visit
Local market guidance: $415 to $506 per typical visit (planning range from published 2026 figures, not our quote; every job is priced on site).
Tree height and spread
A 70 foot oak takes more climbing than a 25 foot maple.
How much comes out
Light deadwooding costs less than full thinning and raising.
What sits underneath
Roofs, fences and gardens mean limbs are roped down, not dropped.
Access for the chipper
Brush dragged a long way to the street adds labor.
Number of trees
Several trees in one visit spreads the setup time.
Service lines nearby
Work near the house service drop is slower and planned.

Questions we get about this
Mature shade trees every three to five years; young trees more often.
Published 2026 local figures put a typical visit at about $415 to $506. That is a planning range, not our quote.
Late winter is ideal for most species. Deadwood and hazard limbs can come off any time of year.
No. Topping leaves stubs that rot and sprout weak regrowth. If height is the issue, crown reduction is the right cut.
We trim near the service drop to your house after planning it. Lines on the pole side belong to Entergy.
Rarely more than a quarter of the live canopy in one season.
Yes. Brush is chipped, logs hauled or left cut, and the yard raked and blown.
